Slowing down the pace....ahhhhh
We are now officially cruising!! We have no hard deadlines and no "must-do" projects at the moment. :-)
After several days in lovely Fernandina Beach, home of Florida's oldest tavern (shown below), we moved to St. Mary's, Georgia to satisfy our insurance requirement to be north of the Cumberland Island southern tip from July 1-November 1.

St. Mary's is a quaint little town with a gorgeous riverside park and friendly residents. St. Mary's is also the entry point to Cumberland Island, a part of the U.S. National Seashore which can only be accessed by boat.
Darlyn and Brad Kuhn met us in St. Mary's and we motored from there to Cumberland Island, where we anchored for a few days and explored the island.
Cumberland Island, first inhabited by Timucua indigenous people, once home to American Revolutionary Hero Nathaniel Greene and his wife Catherine, and later home to Thomas and Lucy Carnegie and their nine children, is a beautiful island whose current primary residents are wild horses.
Many of the ruins of the many homes and recreational facilities that were part of "Dungeneses" built by the Carnegies are still there and are quite interesting to explore.

The main residence at Dungeness was originally built by
Nathaniel Greene and later expanded by Thomas and Lucy Carnegie.

We returned to St. Mary's on the 4th and enjoyed a front-row seat at the fireworks display....the barge from which they were launched was about 500 yards in front of us. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it felt like we were watching a 3D movie and the fireworks were expanding towards us. It was quite an impressive display.

Our next stop will be Jekyll Island; our departure date will be dictated by the wind and the seas. Bye for now!
Amazing 🤩
