TGIF! Boat electronics 101 + Happy Hour at Grand Anse Beach

Steve and I had a pretty quiet day today.  Steve worked on getting the stove and oven propane system operational and I studied the boat electronics system and started walking through all of the functionality and menus on our GPS. 

 We decided to quit working on the boat early today and headed to Grand Anse to do some shopping.  

On the way back, we stopped for a walk along Grand Anse Beach and had an early Happy Hour and dinner at Umbrellas.

  Our daughter, Jessie, and son-in-law, Will, arrived a few hours after our nieces' departure. Although there were some last-minute changes in their flights that were frustrating for them, we were thrilled because they arrived half-a-day earlier than originally planned which allowed them to settle in and rest a bit for our departure the next morning.  Jessie and Will Aboard Starry Night The winds were not favorable for sailing the next day, but we motored - with a boost from the jib - to Allan's Cay, the island just north of Highbourne Cay.  We selected Allan's because the charts showed promising areas for snorkeling and also because within the next couple of days the wind was forecast to shift clockwise 270 degrees, starting from the east, all the way to northerly and be fairly gusty - up to 30 mph or so. March: All That We Hoped For and More!

  March was a whirlwind - literally and figuratively! We were fortunate to host many of our favorite people including my nieces and boyfriend, our daughters and significant others, and one of our good friends from our Siemens cadre. With Nassau as the arrival and departure point for each group, we typically traveled to the Exuma Islands the day after their arrival and returned the day before they left.  Each party stayed roughly a week and during that time we typically sailed, snorkeled, fished, hiked and spent some time at the beaches, with the activities varying a bit depending on the preferences and priorities of the group. As a bonus each group was "treated" to an unplanned "live-aboard special", one of those events that pop up so often to remind one that living on a boat is never boring. Storms and Celebrations in Charleston, and Taking the Alternate Route

In my last post I mentioned that our time in Charleston was wrapping up, but the weather gods had different ideas.... As Steve was finishing the projects at Bridgette's apartment, a tropical system named Debby was gathering strength in the southern Caribbean.  Slowly, but surely, Hurricane Debby made her way northward with a path that was projected to go from the west coast of Florida, across Georgia and straight over Charleston. We weren't particularly worried since we expected that she would lose energy during the pass over Georgia. Unfortunately, the county park officials decided to close the marina, and no one was allowed to stay on their boat. Oh, and they gave us three hours' notice to evacuate! We had already begun securing Starry Night, but thought we would have a full day longer to finish.
